Eenvoud heeft zo zijn voordelen, en wanneer de passief woning standaard wordt gecombineerd met de Japanse fijngevoeligheid op het vlak van bouwen krijg je een krachtige combinatie die ecologische gebouwen naar een nieuw niveau kan tillen. Dit uiterst efficiënte huis ligt erg ver van de traditionele japanse huizenbouw, waarin dunne muurconstructies en enkelvoudige beglazing gebruikt worden. Een manier van bouwen die er ook vandaag nog heel kenmerkend en gebruikelijk is.Key Architects’ passief woning gebruikt heel gedetailleerde constructie materialen en bouwtechnieken om de K-waarde van het huis te verbeteren tot op het punt waarbij veel van de warmte binnenshuis gegenereerd wordt door de elektrische toestellen en bewoners van het gebouw. Dit huis is een mooi voorbeeld van de passief woning standaard bouwtechnieken. Zo heeft het ondermeer driedubbele beglazing, dikke muren voor isolatie en een minimum aan externe verbindingen, waardoor warmteverlies geminimaliseerd wordt. Het hart van het klimaatregelsysteem is een warmterecuperatie-eenheid, die voorziet in een constante toevoer van frisse, gefilterde lucht. Een gebouw wordt gecertificeerd als passief woning wanneer het energieprofiel heeft met ondermeer een heel beperkt energieverbruik per vierkante meter per jaar heeft. Voor dit huis is dit maar een kwart van wat als een goed gemiddelde beschouwd wordt.De passief woning standaard wordt een belangrijke maatstaf in duurzaam bouwen, en in het Japanse klimaat zouden deze huizen een enorme energiebesparing betekenen. Dit huis is ongeveer 50km ten zuidwesten van Tokyo gesitueerd in het vakantieoord Kamakura. Het ontwerp ervan helpt de kritiek te verminderen dat de blokvorm van vele passiefwoningen niet esthetisch zou zijn.
