Wereldwijd leeft meer dan de helft van de bevolking in steden. Voor heel wat mensen onder hen is het veelal een hele klus om aan betaalbare biologisch gekweekte groenten te geraken. Het is dan ook fantastisch om op initiatieven te botsen zoals het innovatieve "Window Farms" project, dat vorig jaar werd gestart door Britta Riley en Rebecca Bray.
Eerder dan een specifiek product te verkopen, promoot dit New Yorkse duo het realiseren van een soort van verticale moestuintjes langs de ramen in huizen en kantoren, door het gebruik van gerecycleerde of lokaal geproduceerde materialen. De oprichters hanteren een no-nonsense doe-het-zelf aanpak voor het oplossen van milieuproblematiek. Ze streven er ook naar een 'community' uit te bouwen om ideeën hieromtrent uit te wisselen.
